New Certified Warranty coverage from GM
by Steve Cypher on Tuesday, August 19th, 2008One of the biggest concerns about buying a used car is the question of warranty coverage. With its new certified used vehicle warranty, General Motors is giving all buyers – including bad credit car buyers – more peace of mind when it comes to purchasing a used car.
Used car warranties
Here at Auto Credit Express, we’re constantly reminding all buyers of used cars that there are many things you can save money on when buying a used car. For instance, you don’t need rust proofing or fabric protection or even window etching. One of the things a buyer should definitely consider, though, is some type of extended service plan to handle any major unexpected repair issues.
In the past, the certified vehicle programs from the manufacturers have resulted in vehicle coverage that is all over the map. The powertrain warranties have been good – generally covering five or so years and up to 100,000 miles. Bumper-to-bumper coverages , especially for non-premium brands, however, have been somewhat lacking – especially given the difference in retail costs of certified versus non-certified vehicles. In other words, why should you spend a one to two thousand dollar premium on a certified car when you can buy a non-certified car and a better service contract for less money?
New GM Certified Vehicle Warranty
The new warranty program will take effect on September 13th, and it will cover all GM certified used vehicles from Pontiac, Buick, GMC, Chevrolet and Saturn. It will include vehicles 6 years old and newer (2002-2008). Although the powertrain warranty remains the same at 5 years or 100,000 miles, the bumper-to-bumper warranty has been extended from 3 months / 3,000 miles to 12 months / 12,000 miles and it’s transferable. Also included is 24 hour roadside assistance and courtesy transportation.
The new warranty is a win-win situation for both GM and its customers, since the warranty will help bolster resale values of the General’s vehicles while giving customers much better warranty coverage on their vehicles.
New Warranty makes buying GM Certified an easier choice
Here at Auto Credit Express we always recommend that you consider an extended warranty that covers most, if not all, of your contract length. The new GM Certified warranty should make owning one of these cars even more appealing.
