Campaign that promotes American products boosts year end Chrysler and GM sales and receives CU Journal award

What we do

At Auto Credit Express our business is to match up customers with bad credit that are looking for an auto loan with dealers in our nationwide network that can help them get a loan while rebuilding their car credit and improving their FICO scores. And while most of our customers will end up financing their vehicles through a subprime lender, we also encourage them to check with their bank or credit union first before applying online for a bad credit car loan.

Credit unions, in some cases, can offer consumers with bad credit an alternative to subprime lenders, while also offering advantages to buyers in the market for a new General Motors or Chrysler vehicle.

New cars are usually more reliable than used cars, but often the added expense puts them out of reach for many bad credit car loan customers. New car incentives, in the form of special pricing and customer cash can not only lower the price of a new vehicle, they can also contribute to the down payment requirements of a loan – and the Invest in American program offers both special pricing and available customer cash.

Bad credit buyers and Invest in America program

Back in December of 2008 the Michigan Credit Union League announced that it would join the Illinois, Indiana and Ohio credit union associations in a partnership that was intended to fill the gap as other lenders in the Midwest retreated from the auto lending market. As a result, 4 million credit union members in Michigan, alone, were eligible for special offers that began on December 8th and originally ran through June of 2009.

Since that time, 2,138 credit unions throughout the United States have signed up for the program. During the last year, alone, 229,344 GM and Chrysler cars and trucks were sold through “Invest in America” totaling $3.5 billion in new auto loans.

“Hundreds of thousands of credit union members drove away with great deals on new cars and trucks in 2009, which helped boost domestic vehicle sales,” said David Adams, CEO of CUcorp. “Credit unions are founded on the principle of ‘Made in America’ and investing in our local communities, so more and more people are turning to their neighborhood credit union for car loans and other services. This broad, national support for the domestic auto industry is good for America as well as the credit union brand.”

For General Motors vehicles, this means that all current and eligible credit union members qualify for supplier pricing (thru September 30th) on new GM vehicles. This pricing, it should be noted, is in addition to most current incentives and special offers.

For Chrysler Group vehicles, this means that all current and eligible credit union members qualify for the Affiliate Rewards preferred pricing on eligible Chrysler, Dodge (except for Viper), Jeep and Ram Truck vehicles.

Award winning

As a result of this success, the Invest in America program won the “Innovation of the Year” for 2009 from the Credit Union Journal for helping Americans save money while, at the same time, boosting domestic auto sales and supporting the U.S. economy.

The bottom line

While not all bad credit consumers will qualify for a loan through their credit union, for those that do, the Invest in America program represents a way to save some serious money towards the price of a new Chrysler or General Motors vehicle.
