Steps to Handle a Recall
If you purchased your vehicle when it was new, the manufacturer should have your name and contact information on file in the event that they need to alert you to safety concerns. However if you bought your car used, you may want to contact the dealer that you purchased the vehicle from or contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, also known as the NHTSA. Whether it’s sent electronic or through snail-mail, you should receive a letter from your vehicle’s manufacturer. With some of the newest vehicles, the letters are sent directly to the car’s computer system. This letter will let your dealer know exactly what the recall is, how to fix it, and that you have a legitimate claim.
- Bring your automobile to the dealer.
