The past year hasn't been easy for Volkswagen, and almost everyone on the planet knows why. However, the automaker is looking to make the best out of 2017 with some changes to its model line. Most notably, the eagerly anticipated Golf Alltrack will finally be made available, and some new Beetle models will be offered.
Winning back consumer confidence is never an easy feat, but it will be difficult for consumers to ignore the revisions and updates that VW is bringing to the table.
The Volkswagen Golf Alltrack
Already on the market in Europe, early reviews of the 2017 Golf Alltrack have been enthusiastically positive. It is likely that the Alltrack's U.S. debut will be warmly received, and potential buyers have shown a lot of interest in getting a look at this derivative of the Golf SportWagen.
Like the SportWagen, the Alltrack is said to be both "practical" and "fun to drive." Its 4Motion® all-wheel drive allows it to go virtually anywhere, and its exterior styling has been described as "rugged." Because the 2017 Alltrack is being viewed as an affordable, yet upscale alternative to existing all-wheel-drive wagons, it may provide some serious competition for vehicles like the Subaru Outback.
The Alltrack is equipped with Volkswagen's power and fuel-efficient 1.8-liter TSI® turbocharged and direct-injected four-cylinder engine. Boasting 170 horsepower and 199 pound-feet of torque, the Golf Alltrack will initially only be offered with a six-speed DSG® dual-clutch automatic transmission, but a six-speed manual transmission will come out later in the year.
New Beetle Models to Hit the Showrooms
Have you ever wanted a brand new Beetle that looks like a classic Beetle or a bright pink Beetle with a hashtag built right into its name? If so, 2017 is your year.
- The #PinkBeetle:
How do you ensure that a vehicle will be talked about on social media? Calling it by a hashtag is a really good start. The #PinkBeetle is virtually guaranteed to trend, and it comes in a Fresh Fuchsia Metallic color that is described as "a vibrant and modern take on the color pink." This particular shade of pink is also featured in the car's interior accents. Available in coupe and convertible configurations, the #PinkBeetle will be offered in limited quantities, starting in the fall.
- The Classic Beetle:
Back by popular demand, the Classic model of the Volkswagen Beetle features a retro look both inside and out. However, its connectivity features are entirely modern. It comes with VW Car-Net® App-Connect, which allows for seamless integration with most current smartphone platforms, as well as Apple CarPlay™, Android Auto™ and MirrorLink® technology.
- The Beetle Dune Convertible:
Joining the Dune coupe that went on sale earlier as a 2016 model, the Beetle Dune Convertible has a more rugged exterior style than the regular models. It also comes with some interior enhancements and a ride height that is raised by 0.4 inches. Like the other Dune models, the Convertible is equipped with a 1.8-liter TSI engine and a six-speed automatic transmission.
And although most of the buzz has been about the Golf Alltrack and the new Beetle models, Volkswagen has added some updates and revisions to other vehicles in its lineup as well. You can expect to see new features offered with the Golf GTI, Golf SportWagen, Golf R, Jetta, Passat, Tiguan and the Toureg.
