A credit bureau is an agency that compiles and maintains credit and other personal information about consumers. These credit agencies then provide this information to creditors and potential creditors.

There are three major credit reporting agencies in the U.S.
  • Equifax
  • TransUnion
  • Experian

In addition to understanding what a credit bureau is, you should also know what tools are out there to help determine your credit score. Knowing what your credit score is helps you understand how credit bureaus will present you to lenders.
