Every Chevrolet, GMC and Buick Certified Pre-owned (CPO) used car, truck and SUV will now come with a Carfax Vehicle History Report at no cost to the shopper.

Carfax and General Motors CPO Program

When it comes to vehicle history reports, Carfax is usually one of the first names that comes to mind. We've all seen or heard their mascot, the Car Fox, urging car buyers to ask the seller to "show them the Carfax."

Now, shoppers of General Motors brands' Chevy, GMC and Buick will have access to a free Carfax Vehicle History Report on every GM Certified used vehicle. You can get them from the selling dealer, and you can also view a snapshot of the report on GM's website for CPO vehicles, GMCertified.com. All Chevy, GMC and Buick CPO vehicles are also now listed for sale on Carfax's website.

Certified pre-owned vehicles are used cars that meet certain standards and have passed a strict evaluation process. They fall into two classes: manufacturer certifications and vehicles that are certified by certain dealers.

For example, to get the GM Certified label, Chevrolets, GMCs and Buicks have to:

  • Be from the previous five model years
  • Have less than 75,000 miles on the odometer
  • Have a clean title
  • Come with a vehicle history report
  • Pass GM's 172-point vehicle inspection and reconditioning process

It's an effort by GM to raise customers' confidence levels and satisfaction. Carfax Reports provide the consumer with comprehensive information that makes them a trusted source for vehicle history particulars.

Carfax reports contain information on: title, flood damage history, total loss accident history, odometer readings, lemon history, number of owners, accident indicators (ex. Airbag deployments), state emissions inspection results, service records and more.

The Advantages of Certified Pre-Owned Vehicles

CPO vehicles offer car shoppers the best of two worlds: the value of a used car combined with the quality assurance of a new one. While they are typically more expensive than traditional used vehicles, many buyers find that CPO vehicles offer more peace of mind.

CPO, Certified, Used

  • Like New
To get certification, you know that the vehicle has met the standards and passed the inspection.
  • Reduce Negative Equity
New cars depreciate a lot right after you drive them off the lot and in the first year of ownership. A CPO vehicle will be past that major depreciation hit already, making it easier for you to build equity in the vehicle if you finance it.
  • Warranty Coverage
All CPO vehicles come with some form of warranty and guarantee. For example, a CPO Buick vehicle that is a 2013 model year or newer comes with a 6-year/100,000-mile drivetrain warranty. Many CPO vehicles also come with maintenance plans, roadside assistance programs, and the like.
