Some pizza places are content with throwing a sign on top of any old delivery vehicle, but when you're the second-largest pizza chain in the U.S. (largest, worldwide), you can afford to class things up a bit.
Domino's Pizza has been around since 1965 (it was "DomiNick's" from 1960-1965), so the company has had to constantly grow and change in order to keep up with the times. First, they gave their pizza a reboot, and now they're launching a brand new fleet of customized Chevy Spark delivery vehicles. This exclusive version of the Spark is called the Domino's DXP (Delivery Expert).
Why the Chevrolet Spark Makes Sense for Domino's
President of Domino's USA, Russell Weiner, had this to say about why this particular automobile was chosen:
"The Chevrolet Spark is the perfect vehicle to bring our pizza delivery to life. Not only will the DXP have a warming oven on board and enough storage capacity to hold 80 pizzas in the rear, but the fuel efficiency is something our franchisees welcome."
Given the stats offered by the Spark, it's easy to see why Domino's is so taken with the tiny cars. While not incredibly powerful, they get impressive gas mileage (31 mpg/city, 39 mpg/highway), come with 31.2 cubic feet of cargo space and have great safety features. With 10 airbags and the StabiliTrak Electronic Stability Control System, the Spark was named as an IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) 2015 Top Safety Pick.
It should also be noted that vehicles used in the delivery fleet will be equipped with the OnStar navigation system, ensuring that pizzas get out to customers as quickly and safely as possible.
Fans of the pizza chain had a hand in the designing of the vehicles. The selection and customization of the Domino's DXP was based on a crowd-sourced concept that developed out of a marketing campaign called "Domino's Ultimate Delivery Vehicle Challenge." The final product was created through a partnership between Domino's and Roush Enterprises.
The Chevy Spark May Make Sense for You
If you're in the market for a small car that boasts excellent fuel economy and comes with a very reasonable price tag (well under $20,000, fully loaded), you may want to look into the Chevrolet Spark. The 2016 version will come with even better gas mileage than the 2015 model. And if you want to stand out in a crowd, the Spark comes in a variety of colors to choose from. While you may not be able to get your hands on the red, white and blue Domino's version, you'll be pleased to know that the cars will still be available in both purple (called Kalamata) and lime green.
